Dwellings Design-Build is a construction company that builds beautiful, high performance homes. Since 2005 we have had the good fortune to work on a wide variety of amazing projects. This means we have a broad depth of experience in most conventional building techniques and also timber-frame, straw bale, straw-clay, hempcrete, passive-house, off-grid…the list goes on. This willingness to learn and to try new techniques is very much at the core of how we approach building. Craft is a practice.
We have consistently been at the forefront, asking what it means to build a ‘green’ house or a ‘sustainable’ house and recognizing that there is no clear answer. There are many ways to build an excellent house. The right approach for your project will depend on your priorities ranging from: aesthetics, sustainability, carbon footprint, budget, time of year, chemical sensitivities, air tightness/R-value, location…
Typically we will work on a couple of major projects a year (full houses) and a range of smaller projects such as screened in porches, entrys, staircases, and cabins. The earlier we can be involved in a project the better. There are always ways to simplify, or flourishes that can be added.
