Residential design is something that has come to us slowly over the years, by virtue of seeing details done poorly, or often not done at all and left to the carpenters (us) to scratch our heads and sort out. The homes we build are an accumulation of decades of experience with techniques and materials that are not a part of most designers’ toolkits. It is not that they don’t want to design using timber or hemp, it is just that they don’t have the experience to do it.
Our design aesthetic has been formed by a blend of influences, ranging from the simplicity and beauty of the classic Ontario cottage; the clean, sleek lines of modern design and an adolescence spent in Asia. Looking at, and thinking about buildings is never boring.
Using 3-D design software offers tremendous advantages, both for the client and designer. For most clients 2-D lines on a page offer very little information. Without a lot of plan reading experience it is hard to imagine how a set drawings will translate into an three dimensional space. 3-D design software offers a fairly realistic view into a space before any holes are dug. The ability to easily move and resize windows, shift walls and swap colours make the design process easier than ever.
